Netball team come 2nd in Holme Grange netball tournament

On Wednesday 12th January, a team of 7 year 5 and 6 girls represented Wildmoor Heath School in a community 7-a-side school tournament at Holme Grange School.  This was the first time the girls had played in a competitive match after only starting training in October, with many sessions disrupted by poor weather last term.

The team, captained by Emily, consisted of Jessica, Libby, Sophie, Freya, Georgia and Taylor.  All girls played very well, both individually and as a team, with particular compliments made by the Holme Grange coach towards the improvement made by Sophie and the solid defence put up by Jessica.

The matches were close and great experience with the umpires stopping to coach and explain the game to the teams.  The first match, against St.Sebastian's 2 was a great warm up and we lead throughout the whole match, winning 6-3.  The second match against Holme Grange was tougher and at half time we were trailing 3-1 until a huge effort from Libby in defence (against a very tall attacker!) and super passing between Emily, Freya and Sophie helped us make an amazing come back to win 4-3!  The final match was always going to be tough playing St.Sebastian's 1 which was a massive learning curve and eventually, depite a great team effort (and playing against a team with some fast year 6 boys on!) we lost 14-0.

Overall the team came 2nd out of the 4 teams, the school are hugely proud of the netball team's acheivements in the tournament and look forward to continuing our successes at the Eagle House U9's tournament on February 16th.
