A-Z of General Information

Birthday Celebrations

We are more than happy for children to bring in sweets to share with their class when it is the their birthday but we would ask that no chocolate or sweets containing nuts are brought in as we have several children with severe nut allergies

Buddies in the yellow Hats

They are given various responsibilities and duties to assist within the school community. They are encouraged to identify children who may be unhappy during playtimes and to intervene when they witness inappropriate games being played. They observe and take notes at ‘Circle Time’, in all classes, once per half term and report back concerns to the Headteacher. Suggestions and concerns are dealt with and action taken to allay fears or provide the extra resources that may be required.

Car Parking

Car parking at the school is very limited, and is intended for staff and official visitors only. There are parking bays along Lower Broadmoor Road and on School Hill. Please do not park on the roads with yellow lines, around the mini roundabout or anywhere which causes a nuisance to our neighbours or other road users.

 Coffee Mornings

On Tuesday mornings (9-9:30am) there is a coffee morning organised in the Hall by our Family Support Adviser, Carol Talbot. It is a chance for parents from all year groups to get together for a chat. There are toys laid out for younger siblings to play with whilst their mums relax and a cup of juice if they would like it.

Data Protection

You will be aware that the school holds data in order to support, monitor and report on pupil learning and care. This information includes national assessment results, attendance, ethnicity, medical and special educational needs. This data is passed on only for specific purposes and only to such agencies as are prescribed by law and who are subject to the same legal constraints as ourselves.

The governing body of a maintained school in England is also required to supply basic information to ContactPoint, which is a directory that helps people who work with children and young people to co-ordinate information for the purpose of efficient delivery of support.

You will already have received a copy of our Data Protection information document but if you have any questions or require a copy of the document, please ask at the school office. If you wish to access data held please contact the relevant organisation. These are listed on our information document or can be found at www.bracknell-forest.gov.uk.

Schools continue to be under pressure to dissuade parents from taking holidays during term time. Some schools are asking for letters from employers to prove that there are no alternative date available. More than 10 days holiday are classed as excessive and should be unauthorised. Similarly when parents fail to notify school about their child's absence, this is again recorded as unauthorised. Please think very carefully before you take your child out of school during term time and always notify us of the reason for absence, prefeably before the event.

Lateness

All children arriving after 9 o'clock must be brought in through the front door, to report to the school office. The office staff will take them to their classroom.

Letters from School

Letters and notices are sent home with the children on occasion as well as a newsletter every Friday. These letters contain valuable information and often call for a response. Please check your child’s bag every day so that you do not miss important information.

It is now possible to receive these letters by email. By reducing photocopying, this saves the school money and may be more convenient to you. If you wish to receive the newsletter by email, please notify the school office on secretary@wildmoorheath.bracknell-forest.sch.uk or fill in a Schoolcomms form (available in the reception)

Mobile Phones/Electronic games

School cannot be responsible for expensive electronic equipment and we would ask that children do not bring these items into School.  Mobile phones are only acceptable for children who walk or cycle to and from school on their own.  All phones must turned off and given to the School Office at the beginning of the day.

Pedestrian Entrances

Please use the pedestrian entrances from the footpath only - the car park should not be used as a pedestrian entrance to the school due to the danger to children. The school grounds must not be used as a shortcut.

Peer Mediation

A Peer Mediation Scheme is in place. The pupils in Year 5 and 6 choose the pupils that they feel will make good mediators. Training on the use of appropriate strategies is then given before they are allowed to deal with disputes. They wear blue hats and are asked to help solve disagreements which occur during playtimes.

PE lessons

Please try to ensure that all clothes and items of sports kit are marked with your child's name.

Playtime

All children require a change of shoes for playtime and in good weather for outdoor PE lessons.

Safeguarding Children

It is now mandatory for all new appointments to the school’s workforce to have a Criminal Records Bureau check. All new appointments to the school are subject to an Enhanced CRB Disclosure. Volunteers who help regularly in the classroom and with activities associated with the school will also be asked to submit to an enhanced CRB check. It is school policy that all personnel who are left alone with children are first cleared in this way.

Headteachers will also make a risk assessment, and use their professional judgement and experience in deciding whether a CRB disclosure is necessary.

School Day

The school day starts at 8.50am on each weekday with the Attendance Register and the Dinner Register being called. Children go to the hall for assembly before break.

There is a morning break from 10.30am to 11am. Weather permitting, the children play outside in the playground or on the playing field (unless the weather has recently been very wet), where they are supervised by two duty teachers. Fruit and milk are available for purchase in school for 10 pence. Children are not permitted to eat sweets or biscuits.

Lunch break takes place between 12 and 1 o'clock. School meals are served and packed lunches eaten in the hall, and the children play outside in the playground and on the playing field. Four midday controllers supervise the children during this break. During wet lunch breaks, the children undertake activities in the classrooms. Two Buddies help with supervision in Reception and Years 1 and 2.

The Attendance Register is called again at 1 o'clock when the children have returned to their classrooms.

School finishes at 3.15pm.

School Lunches

To see the current menu please look at Useful Documents in the Parents section of the website

A three week rolling menu is provided so there is plenty of choice for school lunches. The price of a school lunch is £2.00 (from September 2011) and cheques should be made payable to ISS Education. This includes main meal and dessert. Water is available but children can also bring in their own non-fizzy drink.

Payment should be made in lunch money envelopes available outside the office, indicating child's name, class and the days of the week that lunch is required. Payment can be for a day, week or half term. If paying by cash, we are not able to give change so any change will be credited to your account.

Have your circumstances changed? You may be eligible for free school meals. A claim form can be obtained from the school office. If you are unsure about your eligibility please speak to Mrs Davis in the office who will help to clarify the situation

Sponsorship Programme

The School is sponsoring a child in Uganda.  Her name is Christine Nakibuuka and she lives in Mityana in Uganda, Africa.

The sponsorship will enable Christine to get an education and eventually she would like to get a job in a hotel.  She has just finished her first year of vocational training at St Tereza Vocational Traning centre in Zigoti.

Swimming

Year 3 go swimming once a week for the whole school year. Cost is £4.00 per session payable weekly or termly. Children must bring costume, towel and a swimming hat.

Toys

Unless they have been asked to do so, please do not allow your child to bring toys to school - they belong at home. Toys are easily lost or damaged at school, and much valuable teaching time can be wasted sorting out the problems they cause.

Uniform

Please ensure that the children are wearing school uniform. All jumpers, t-shirts and sweaters should be in school colours. Hairbands etc should also match school colours and shoes/sandles should be suitable to school wear (no heels)
