Communication
For children to be successful and ready for secondary school, it is important that they can communicate confidently, through oral and written communication.
At Wildmoor Heath, we ensure that all children learn to read well and have the confidence to speak to a range of audiences.
School council
Our enthusiastic school council representatives meet every other week to discuss school matters and areas to improve. Their latest mission is to further improve our lunchtime provision, so they held a cake sale to raise money!
Oracy
Think, Pair, Share
At Wildmoor Heath School we are developing our oracy skills through a strategy called Think, Pair, Share. Think: Pupils are given time to think about a question. Pair: They then discuss their ideas with a partner. Share: Finally, pairs share their thoughts with the wider class. We are encouraging every child to take part in conversations, building confidence and developing active listening skills.
English
In English lessons we encourage speaking and listening activities, including story telling, role-play and discussions.
French
From Year 3 we teach French weekly. We teach lessons through stories, rhymes and songs. The children also learn French using 'French' Phonics.
Computing
Our computing curriculum encourages children to share their learning through creative digital communication, from coding projects to surveys.
Arts and music
The children also communicate through art and music. We are very fournate to partner with Rock Academy who visit us weekly to inspire and teach our children how to play musical instruments. Here is a snapshot from a recent Rock Academy concert.
Inclusive communication
At Wildmoor Heath, we work hard to provide an inclusive curriculum. We use a variety of visual aids to support communication for our learners. We use widget symbols to introduce new vocabulary and we have learnt a few BSL signs too!
Curriculum communication
At the end of each term, children have the opportunity to demonstrate their learning in Science, Design and Technology, Art, Geography and History through a dedicated communication piece. These tasks are designed to help pupils reflect on and articulate their understanding in creative and meaningful ways. Whether it's making an illustrated book, leading a presentation or sharing their knowledge with parents and carers.
