Wildmoor Heath School

Governing Body

Wildmoor Heath School is an academy in the Greenshaw Learning Trust.

The Greenshaw Learning Trust is a charitable company, limited by guarantee, with the sole purpose of maintaining and developing academy schools to provide comprehensive and inclusive eduction for the public benefit.  You can find out more about the governance of the Trust on the Trust website here.

The Trustees of the Greenshaw Learning Trust haver overall legal responsibility for all the schools in the Trust, but they delegate powers and responsibilities with respect to the governance of each school to its governing body.  The governing body is formally called is a committee of the Board of Trustees that reports to and is accountable to the Board of Trustees under a Scheme of Delegation of governance functions.

The Governing Body is responsible for the strategic leadership of the school, for oversight of the school's financial and academic performance, and for holding the Headteacher and school's senior leadership to account.

Governors are appointed in a number of different ways to reflect the school's various stakeholders and to bring a range of skills and experience to the governing body:

  • Trust governors are appointed by the Board of Trustees of Greenshaw Learning Trust
  • A parent governor has to be a parent of a pupil at the school at the time of their election and elected by ballot of all parents and carers of current students.
  • A staff governor must be employed by the Trust to work at the school, and is appointed following a ballot of all staff at the school.
  • The Headteacher is a governor ex-officio

All governors (except the Headteacher) serve a term of office for four years, but can be reappointed.

The governors at Wildmoor Heath School constitute the Governing Body and collectively play an important leadership role in overseeing the safeguarding and management of the school and its staff.  Governors exercise their powers in a primarily strategic leadership role; they should not get involved in the day-to-day running of the school.

The Governing Body operates essentially as a flat structure, without committees for specific areas of focus. Statutory committees are in place for Head Teacher Performance Management Panel, Pay Review, Staff Discipline and Appeals.

Meet the Governors

Mrs Karen Roche

After many years of teaching in local secondary schools and working as an Education Adviser for a local authority, I am now working independently as an education consultant. In this role, I have worked on many OfSTED inspections and work closely with schools in challenging circumstances.

My son and daughter were both educated locally and it gives us great pleasure to watch them, and their many friends, grow into successful young adults. Crowthorne is a great community for a family to grow up in, and I am delighted to take part in the continuing development of Wildmoor Heath Primary School.

Mr Chris Salt

I was appointed as a Community Governor at Wildmoor Heath School in November 2011 and undertook the role of Vice Chair from October 2012 to October 2013.

I have worked in education for some 39 years, as a teacher of Design and Technology, Music and ICT and also as a LA Schools’ Adviser and Ofsted Inspector. As I quickly move towards retirement age, I am currently enjoying a part time teaching role at Sandhurst School teaching Design and Technology courses at both GCSE and A Level.

I have two children, who were educated locally in Yateley. During their schooling, I always took an active interest in their respective schools, offering time and support and participating in many parent events.

As a Governor, I am committed to providing the best educational opportunities for all children at Wildmoor Heath School.

Mrs Leslie Semper

I am very honoured to be the Headteacher at Wildmoor Heath School and to sit on the Governing Body. I have been a Headteacher in three different schools and enjoy working with governors and our wonderful staff to achieve the best possible outcomes for our young learners. Wildmoor Heath is a unique school in a superb position right on Wildmoor heathland. We take pride in offering our pupils a rich and balanced curriculum, which includes personal development of each child’s ‘cultural capital’ through an extensive list of opportunities, school visits, residential trips, outdoor learning and our community partnerships. Working with governors is a key part of our work to ensure that our provision is the best possible.

When not in school, I enjoy The Great Outdoors - walking with my border collies, cycling and kayaking. I also enjoy Scottish Country Dancing and live music.

Mr Ben Wickins

I have been a co-opted governor since February 2017 and really enjoy helping WHS to continue supporting and challenging the students. Coming from a family of teachers, I have always had a passion for schools and teaching so although I am relatively new to the role, I have been talking and learning about education and school governance for a long time! Not having any children in the school means that I can consider, advise and decide based on what is presented by Mrs Semper and the excellent teachers at Wildmoor Heath.

In my day job, I am a management consultant working mostly in London. My wife and I can often be spotted walking our retired Greyhound, Iggy, on Yateley common and Frogmore where we live.

Mr Ean Lexton Newly appointed. Profile to follow
Mr Stephen Vegh

I was co-opted to the governing body in 2021.  After studying Psychology at university I made the decision to become a Secondary School teacher. I taught from Sep 2007 to Dec 2021.  During this time I taught RS, Classics, Psychology, PSHE and Criminology.  I've led a number of departments to success, whereby our students have achieved excellent results.

In my current role, I'm a senior education advisor form Bracknell Forest.

I currently chair the Wokingham SACRE and work closely with their Primary and Secondary schools. I'm an experienced governor with over 10 years working across both Primary and Secondary phases.

Growing up on some of the tougher council estates in London, I learnt very quickly the power of education and how it opens up doors to your people.

I have two young ones, the eldest has recently started Primary School.  In my spare time (not during Covid), you'll find me off travelling with my boys or my head in a book.
